"Quails' Gate's delightful site boasts an early 20th Century stone-house tasting room and an exquisite vineyard that tumbles down the property to Okanagan Lake." - Anthony Gismondi, Vancouver Sun
"A stone house, held captive by flowers, is the tasting room for this unique winery overlooking Okanagan Lake. The structure carved from wood and stone, echoes the past and mirrors the quality of their award-winning fine red wines. There is a lot to taste and to look at in this charming tasting room." - Juliet Williams, The Okanagan Sunday

It was 1989 when, after years of planting and experimenting, longtime
Okanagan Valley resident Dick Stewart and his son Ben, opened Quails’ Gate
Estate Winery in Kelowna, British Columbia. For the Stewart family, the venture
was a once in a lifetime opportunity to pursue a shared passion for Pinot Noir,
and to realize a dream of producing it, and other varieties of wines, with a
superior level of quality. At the time, many in the industry weren’t convinced
that it could be done, especially when it came to red wines. Dick and Ben
Stewart set out to prove them wrong.
In the beginning, Quails’ Gate employed a handful of people and produced less
than 4,000 cases annually. Tony Stewart came on board in 1992 to work along side
his brother Ben, and today, Quails’ Gate employs more than 30 people. In
August of this year a new $2 million production facility was officially opened
by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, increasing production ability to 60,000 cases
and barrel storage ability to 1,500 French oak barriques.
The product range of Quails' Gate includes 12 different varieties, from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chasselas and Chenin Blanc to specialty items such as Late Harvest Optima and Riesling Icewine. Of all its wines, Quails’ Gate is perhaps best known for the superior quality of its Family Reserve Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Along with many of the winery’s other products, the Family Reserve wines have garnered numerous national and international awards and accolades - more than 130 to date.
Demand for Quails’ Gate wines is growing steadily. Agents from the United States have approached the winery about selling its products south of the border. Although Quails’ Gate is already available across Canada and in the United Kingdom and Taiwan, export to the United States would mark a significant step in the journey towards wider international recognition.
Entering the lucrative U.S. market is just one of the exciting possibilities Quails’ Gate has in its more immediate future. The winery has just completed a $2 million dollar expansion and high-density replanting effort. Quails’ Gate now has a new production facility and 60 acres of new vines to grow more of the precious fruit that, in just eight years, has helped a family from Kelowna, British Columbia turn a dream of producing world class wines into a reality.
