Hang gliding enthusiast will appreciate the bird’s eye view they will get flying through the sky over Lumby.  A favorite with the pilots, both local and visitors’, is the public launch site found up Trinity Valley way via Defies Creek.  The locals know this launch site as Cooper’s Launch.  Saddle Mountain is also a great private launch, but is restricted to those accompanied by a local pilot.  King Edward and Vernon Mountain both provide a gentle grassy slope for take-off and have no shortage of large fields for landing.  Lumby has hosted some of the country’s top Hang Glider pilots.  There is at least one major competition held in Lumby annually.  For further information on launch sites and competitions, contact the local Hang Gliding Club, The Lumby Air Force, Peter Warnes at (250) 547-2169.
