Sumac Ridge Estate Winery is located on 17 acres of land on Highway 97 North in Summerland, B.C., which lies in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. Our global coordinates are 119' 40' 00 Longitude and 49' 35' 00 Latitude.
The Winery is on a bench overlooking Okanagan Lake, said to be the home of Ogopogo, a legendary sea-creature not unlike the world-famous Loch Ness Monster.
Summerland was incorporated almost 100 years ago and has been primarily an agricultural community. However in recent years, this has been changing due to the increasing interest in people seeing Summerland as a popular retirement destination.

Sumac Ridge Estate Winery offers an educational tour which includes the
history of the facilities and a detailed description of winemaking from the
vineyard to types of glasses. The winery welcomes visitors year round and offers
personally conducted tours, daily, from the start of May through to the middle
of October at 10am, 11am noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm or for groups by
appointment any time.
Sumac Ridge Estate Winery was established in 1979 and produced it's first wines during the 1980 vintage.
The founding partners were Harry McWatters, who remains President of the company today, and Lloyd Schmidt, who sold his interest in the winery in 1985.
Sumac Ridge Estate Winery was licensed to sell wine on July 11, 1981. It was the first Estate Winery (although two other wineries licensed as cottage wineries had opened), and remains the longest continuously operating Winery by any founder in the Okanagan Valley.

Sumac Ridge Golf and Country Club opened in 1962, as a long and very challenging 9 hole course.
The original site of approximately 65 acres was developed by Vic Parker and his family, who operated the golf course until 1980 upon which they sold 41 acres and began the development of the remaining land for homes and condominiums.
The golf course was an integral part of the winery operation from 1980 to 1990. At this time it was sold to free up capital in order to expand the winery.
The Golf Club continues as a testy Par 3 and also carries a sports bar
currently known as "The Ridge".
